Rumor Mongers

“Thanks.”  Looking at the perfectly fabricated female syn-bot serving my drink with less then respectful eyes.  She may have been a robot but whoever designed her should be given an award or something.

“So yeah, that is what I’m offering.”

Taking  a sip of the whiskey, I hadn’t heard a single word this guy said but I wasn’t going to let him know that a syn-bot had stolen all the attention.  Wonder if she does room calls?  “Yeah, well I’m just not interested.”

“What?…Fuck off.  I thought you were in.”

“This part of space is becoming dangerous.  You know with all the rumors.”

“Fuck the Mongers, bunch of pussy’s.”

“You say that now, but they are taking over one sector at a time, I heard S.A.T is losing the war and soon we will all be under the Monger banner.”

“You under a banner?  Only banner you fly under is your own.”

I shrugged and took another sip of whiskey.  “What can I say I like being sovereign.”  Not far from where I sat a half naked women with pointed ears and long red hair with golden skin hung on to the pole with her legs.  Stretching backwards with her arms moving gracefully through the air she had hoards of horny men memorized around her sending bit transfer to her over flowing account.

“Are you even paying attention to me or do the fake tits have you distracted?”

“You can’t tell fake from real anymore.  I can barely tell what is full of gears and what is full of blood.  Look I’m not flying to the Drake Sector, not happening.  That sector has been engaged in intense fighting for over four months.  I fly there I’m not coming back.  So forget about it.”  I put my glass down on the table, just as the glass made contact with the table an explosion rocked the front door to the club.  Bodies flew through the air, screams gave the pounding music something to compete with.  A piece of debris smashed the table my drink was on sending glass in to the air and my criminal friend diving for the floor.  I stood up, chaos had taken over the club.  The Mongers were here.

I undid the button that kept my laser pistol secure and started to walk towards the offices at the back of the room.

“Where are you going?”

I looked over my shoulder my friend was peeking his head just above the back of his chair so he could see what was going on.  “Getting the fuck out of here.”

“Only one exit you stupid fucker.”

“Yeah…sure.”  I left that shit head to his own fate.  I owed him nothing.

Honestly, I had no idea if there was an exit back here.  It was a hunch that the people that worked in these offices didn’t walk through the club to come and go.  And I was right.  Naked whores ran through the halls with their naked lovers following after them.  Tits and cocks flapped in the wind after being caught in the act by the Mongers.  I laughed and followed the ass cracks to the exit.

Four people ran through the door in front of me, not even looking to make sure it was clear.  They got blown away.  Mongers didn’t care if you were apart of the Space Alliance Taskforce or not.  If they got you in there sights they blew you away.  Standing with my back against the wall just to the right of the door.  The light above me flickered on and off,  I could hear the heavy foot falls of men running, then a muzzle of a gun appeared through the door.  Shortly after the body of the man holding it walked through.  I let him pass, then another, and another.  No one came in behind the third.  Silently I pulled my laser pistol out and pointed it at the back of the head of the Monger.  I pulled the trigger, his head exploded, then followed up with another two quick shots.  The Mongers toppled over, laying on the floor as blood pooled out of the mortal wounds.

Peaking out of the door I check the alley before running towards my ship that was docked at a private pad.  I thanked myself for having the foresight to dock it there at a friends place and not at the public marina.

Explosions rocked the streets of the city.  I could feel the tremors through the ground.  At one point an explosion was so close I nearly lost my balance and fell.  My ship was parked only a few blocks from the club.  One of the reasons why I chose to have a drink there.  Now I was regretting hanging around for that drink.  Turning a corner a sigh of relief fell over me as the warehouse where my ship was docked had not been touched.

I saw the roof start to open, there were two other ships in there besides mine.  They were all trying to make the escape like I was.  Damn fuckers are going to get the place blown up.  I ran as fast as my feet would take me.  The door to the warehouse was already open.  Running through I saw my ship sitting there, there was a glow to the engines as it warmed up.

Running up the ramp I looked around.

“Was wondering when you were going to get your ass here.”

“Are the engines ready for take off?” I walked in to flight control and took a seat next to a 12 year old girl.  Calm your jets, she was a syn-bot that I took in when I found her getting auctioned off to a sex trafficker.

“Ten seconds.”

“Fuck!”  I said.  Explosion were getting nearer, dust and debris rattled loose from the rafters.  I watched the first ship get air born.  There was a flash of light followed by an explosion I covered my eyes with my forearm.  Debris bounced off my ship ratting around before settling on the floor.

“Three, two, one.”

“Get us out of here!”

The ship exploded forward, pushing myself into my seat.  Alexa turned the ship around to face the opening in the roof which was now a bit wider and punched it.  Rocketing towards the clouds all around us ships dodged and weaved.  Vapor trials of rockers drew lines in the sky like one big game of tick tack… “Holy shit!”

“Hang on” Alexa said.  Weaving us between ships and rockets.  The radar flashing with lock on warnings from enemy weapon guidance systems.

“I can drive Alexa.”

“With your reflexes Chris, we’d be dead already.  Just because I’m a syn doesn’t mean I’m suicidal.”

The clouds gave way to space, space gave way to a fucking space battle.  War ships the size of cities, interceptors, and debris like some giant had taken a shit of metal and meat were every where.

“Where to Chris?”

“Don’t give a fuck get us out of here.”

“Got it!”  Alexa slammed her fist on to the jump sequence control.

The wine of the engines as it buffered the power was a comforting hum to know in seconds we’d be gone.  A ship directly in front of us took position perfectly to lock on.  “We need to go!”

“Almost.”  Alexa said.

“You’re not looking out the window are you?”

“Almost.”

“Fuck…fuck…fuck…fuck.”  The ships weapons fired, the rocket trail could be seen speeding towards us.  “Fuck…fuck…fuck!”

“Punching it”
A worm hole instantly open and the next thing I new we were deep in space not a ship in sight.

“You okay Chris?  You look a little shaken up.”

“Fucking Mongers.”

The End.

“Welcome back to channel seven news. Our field reporter Rupert Tumble is on site at the Mage School of Magic where a student is about to test his theory of teleportation. Rupert, over to you.”
“Thank you Shelia, this is the most amazing event I have ever covered. And I have covered some strange events. From the disappearance of Arch-mage Jing and the memorable blunder of second level mage Sterling who shrunk himself and was accidentally kill underfoot. We’ve been waiting here four hours hoping to see new initiate John Stam who is said to have the talent to be the next high-mage.”
“What’s that I hear behind you Rupert? Sounds like clapping?”
“Shelia indeed it is, John Stam has just walked out of the school and is approaching the media now. Our belief is that he is ready to start his attempt. I think it would be best if we just sit back and let Mr. Stam do his thing.”
“Thank you so much for coming today, I hope that I achieve what I have promised or you all will have wasted your time. So I need everyone here to be quiet as I begin this spell.” John Stam said addressing the crowd.
“You heard it Shelia.” Rupert whispered. “We are to remain quiet and watch.”

John stood with his arms out at his sides, his long purple cloak pooling at his feet, he started to move his arms up and down at his side like he was trying to fly. Everyone was astonished to see an orb start to form. The crowd gasped at the sight of a blinding light. The screen on the viewfinder when dark then Shelia appear on the screen.
“Well it appears we are having technical difficulties we—“
“Oh my god Shelia, the horror, a black hole has opened and people are getting sucked in to it, the horror, the shame.”
“Rupert you okay?”
“I’m sorry Shelia I cannot hear you, the black hole is getting bigger, this is the worse—“

I looked at the T.V screen. “Ah shit, not again.” With a look over my shoulder I yelled to my wife. “Honey, prepare the shuttle, we need to plan a vacation fast. The mage-school has messed up our country again.”

The End.

Kids “next Monday is the field trip to Earth Orbit. Where we will watch the humans in their natural habitat. Upon returning from the field trip you will be expected to write a report on what you witnessed and what you have learned. Now be sure that tomorrow you will bring back the permission slips signed by your parents. If you don’t have them in by tomorrow you will not be able to join your class mates on the trip.”
Glog turned and looked to his friend and whispered quietly. “Are you parents going to let you go?”
I think so Glog, my Da went when he was our age so I don’t think he is worried. But my mom is concerned. You know with what has been going on there in the last decade.”
Glog sat back in his seat and smiled at Flob. His parents were not sold on the idea of observing the people from Earth. With their new technology and ability to look out in to space visiting Earth is becoming harder to do.
The sound of chimes echoed through the school and the kids all jumped from their desk excited that another school day had come to an end. “Remember kids!” The teacher yelled after them. “Get your permission slips signed.” She wondered if any of the kids had even heard her over the excitement of the chimes signaling the weekend was here.

Glog was not so excited as the other kids rushed for the exit looking forward to the weekend. He knew that as soon as he got home he would have to convince his parents to let him go and he wasn’t so sure that he was going to be able to do that. He stared out the window of the airship as it raced through the sky. Glog looked at the clouds and imagined what they looked like. Some looked like the six legged hanker, a huge furry creature that lived in the purple forest of Ven. Others looked like fish in the aqua oceans and well some just didn’t look like anything.
A ladies voice came over the P.A system. “Next stop Yelt Street.” With a heavy sigh Glog got his backpack on and got ready to get off. The bus stopped and hovered over the road. Glog walked up to a circular symbol on the buses floor. The driver looked at Glog and nodded, he nodded back and in a shimmer of purple light Glog disappeared and shortly reappeared on the street below. A few friends still on the air shuttle waved as it zoomed off disappearing in the clouds.

Glog walked down the street, his head hung low looking at the sidewalk. The green cement passed beneath his feet. When he looked up he had walked two homes past his and backtracked. Standing at the path that lead to the front door Glog just stared at it. Wondering how he was going to convenience his parents to let him go on this trip. The door swung open.
“Glog what are you doing just standing there?”
Glog looked at his mom and gave her a half smile.
What’s the matter son?” His father peaked out from behind his mother.
“Nothing .” Glog shook his head as he walked towards the door.
“I know my son and I know when something is wrong? Is Blok bulling you again?”
“No Mum!” Glog looked up at his Mum, angered that she would bring up that issue in front of his father. “If you must know it’s the trip…I want to go. My friends are going.” Glog walked past his parents and in to the home. Dropping his school bag on the bench he went in to the living room and plopped down on the couch. He heard his mother and father come in behind him.
“Son it is a dangerous trip.” His mother said taking a seat next to him, putting a gentle hand on his shoulder. “More so now son then when we had the opportunity to take the trip. The humans have become violent. Worse then when I visited the planet.”
“We just don’t want anything to happen to you. They have technology that lets them put junk into space. Like missiles and all these things can hurt and even kill everyone on board. We want to see you have a long happy life. That is all.”
“I get it, but all my friends already have their permission slips signed.”
“Son…” Glog’s father said. “You give me three reasons why you think you should go and I will consider them.”
Glog looked up at his dad. “One, I get to see another planet and learn about it. Two I get to watch another people, how amazing is that Dad to see another species of life? Three, it’s a right of passage, it is a sign that we are moving on to the next lesson, the next step in my life.” Sighed Glog.
Glog’s father looked at his mother. Their eyes met and his lips thinned. He didn’t think his song would have come up with reasons that had so much thought behind them in such little time. He was expecting reasons like his friends were going, or it was cool. The surprise his son gave him was pleasant.
“Is this something that you believe you need to do?”
“Yes“ Da it is.”
“Okay we will sign the permission slip but you must do something for your Mum and I.”
“Anything Da, I’ll do the dishes for…forever. I’ll keep my room clean…anything Da.”
“Well all those reason are good and you should be doing them to begin with. But what I was thinking is this weekend I will take you to Buy Best and we will pick up a planetary phone that you will carry with you on the trip. You must call us when you arrive and check in through out the trip. That is my only stipulation.”
Glog nodded. “Of course I’ll even take pictures and sent them to you.” Glog jumped from the couch and hugged his Mum and Da. “Thank you so much.”
Glog’s Da rubbed the top of his sons head. “Well get your jacket, lets get this phone now and get it set up.”
Glog grabbed his jacket and was at the door before his Da had even put his shoes on.

The End.

“Kids do you have your permission slips?” Miss Ackorn said looking around at her students as they held the permission slips in the air. “Good, now hand them off to Andy, our operator for this trip and then take your seats. Make sure you fashion all safety harnesses.

The well behaved kids formed a single line and all walked into the time travelling school bus handing their signed permission slips to Andy as he scanned them in to the travel log. Once all the children were inside Andy stood at the front of the bus and looked back at the seated children.
“Okay here are the rules on this trip, you will always keep your arms and legs inside the bus at all times until we have arrived. Do not get separated from the group, if you do find yourself lost, please press your locator beacon that we have provided and a rescue team will be bought in to find you. The most important thing to remember is to listen to all instructions issued by your teacher Miss Ackorn and myself. Everybody understand?”
“Yes Andy!” The children said together.
“Good, any questions?” Andy asked but no hands went up.
“Good let’s get this show on the road!” Andy turned to take the controls of the bus as the kids cheered behind him. Every one excited for todays field trip.

With in seconds they had travelled back to the prehistoric period, the doors of the school bus opened and the children lined up to exit.
“Okay kids should a dinosaur show itself…” Before Miss Ackorn could finish a ginger haired kid ran past her and out in to the prehistoric forest.
“Ha-ha look at me, first one out!” Larry started to take giant steps and shorted his hands. “Look at me I’m a scary T-Rex, rarrrrr!” Larry looked back at the bus and noticed that all the kids stared at him with shock and terror on their faces, not the humor he expected. The school bus doors closed and Andy hit the emergency button. They return to 2164.

“Here you are sir, Larry, as good as new. We downloaded the latest memory back up and he should be up to date. But we must advise that you inform your child the safety of staying alive. Cloning technology can only do so much and this is the third time your child has perished on a field trip. You know that we cannot guarantee accuracy past the 4th generation. So do take care, your son is running out of second chances.”
“Yes of course, we will have a stern talking with Larry tonight.” Larry’s father flashed him a stern glare. “He will have a leash around his neck for the next little while.”
“Good day.” The Doctor said.
“Thank you Doc.”

The End.
